Unification International Law and Policy Forum to Be Held in Seoul

The Center for International Law [CIL]
International Symposium, the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security
[IFANS] and the Korea National Democratic Academy [KNDA] will host a conference titled, “
International Law and Policy on Korean
Reunification” on November 19th in Seoul. 

Chung Chong Wook, Vice Chairman of the
Presidential Committee for Unification of Preparation will deliver the opening remarks at the forum, which will be divided into three sessions.

Featuring a panel of experts including Yang Chang Seok, Auditor for the
Kaesong Industrial District Foundation; and Norbert Eschborn, Resident
Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Korea Office, session one of the event will cover reunification-related policies.

Session Two, “Reunification and
International Law I” will include a presentation by Professor Lee Keun Gwan of
Seoul National University on the “Peace Regime of the the Korean Peninsula,”
followed by a lecture titled, “Peace Use of the DMZ,” given by Professor Anna
Grichting of Qatar University. An expert group of discussants will also take part in the debate.

Professor Won Jae Chun of Handong Global
University will present on “North Korean Human Rights and Implication of
International Humanitarian Law” during the third and final session of the
symposium. Alex Bellamy, Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility
to Protect at the University of Queensland, will share research on “The DPRK and
the Responsibility to Protect [R2P], with an expert team of discussants joining in follow-up dialogue.
