Kirby Pushes to Incorporate Human Rights Agenda

Justice Michael Kirby, one of the three authors of the
recent Commission of Inquiry (COI) report into North Korean human rights, has
urged the international community to incorporate human rights matters into
all dialogues taking place with North Korea.

Speaking at a seminar organized by the Brookings Institution
in Washington, DC, Justice Kirby asserted that human rights could even be
incorporated into the agenda for any revived Six-Party Talks framework.

On April 17th, members of the COI team, including
Kirby, are expected to attend a closed-doors session of the UN Security
Council, where they are due to discuss the North Korean human rights problem.
On the 17th of last month, the COI report was formally reported to
the UN Human Rights Council.
